This Safeguarding Policy sets out the standards Caperia Education expects from tutors and explains how we aim to prevent, identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.
At Caperia Education, the safety and well-being of our students are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment for all children and young people who participate in our online tutoring programmes.
This Safeguarding Policy sets out the standards we expect from tutors working with Caperia Education and explains how we aim to prevent, identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.
This policy applies to all tutoring services arranged through Caperia Education and to all tutors providing services to Caperia students.
For the purposes of this policy, a child or young person is anyone under the age of 18.
Caperia Education takes reasonable steps to ensure that tutors are suitable to work with children and young people.
Tutors are selected on the basis of their professional experience, qualifications and suitability for online tutoring. As part of the selection process, Caperia Education verifies relevant professional references and may verify identity, professional background and qualifications.
Where reasonably available and appropriate in the tutor’s country of residence, Caperia Education may also request a criminal record, background or equivalent safeguarding check. As such checks and their availability vary between countries, they may not be available for every tutor.
All tutors are expected to comply with this Safeguarding Policy and to maintain appropriate professional standards throughout their work with Caperia students.
Tutors must maintain clear and appropriate professional boundaries with students at all times.
All interactions between tutors and students must be respectful, professional and related to the student’s education and tutoring. Tutors must never engage in behaviour that is abusive, discriminatory, intimidating, sexually inappropriate or otherwise likely to cause harm to a student.
Tutors must not develop inappropriate personal relationships with students or use the tutoring relationship for personal, financial or other purposes unrelated to the provision of tutoring.
Tutoring arranged through Caperia Education takes place online using agreed video-conferencing platforms such as Google Meet or Zoom.
Tutors and students should participate in lessons from an appropriate environment that allows the lesson to take place safely and without unnecessary interruptions.
Tutors must conduct themselves professionally throughout online lessons and must not share inappropriate material or expose students to content that is unrelated to the educational purpose of the lesson.
Private in-person meetings between tutors and students are not part of Caperia Education’s tutoring services and must not be arranged through the tutoring relationship.
Direct email communication between tutors and students is permitted where it is necessary for the organisation and delivery of tutoring.
This may include sharing learning materials, assignments, feedback, lesson links and other information directly related to the student’s lessons.
All email communication must remain professional and directly related to the tutoring relationship. Parents or guardians of students under the age of 18 should be aware that tutors may communicate directly with students by email for these purposes.
Tutors should involve the parent or guardian and/or Caperia Education where communication concerns matters beyond normal lesson organisation or academic support.
Tutors must not communicate privately with minor students through personal social media
